DIY Paperweight Gifts

I am ashamed that I have not posted anything in two months! To ramp up again I thought I would share a really fun DIY project I made this morning. Over the summer my mom found for me some glass paperweights at a yard sale. I have had them hanging around until this morning when I finally found the inspiration to fill them. They were easy to fill and turned out nicely. I think giving them for gifts this holiday season will be nice.

What you need:

empty glass paper weights
images or vintage fabric
thin cardboard to use as a template and backing
hot glue gun

I filled the paperweights with vintage photos and scraps of vintage fabric (both of which I have a lot of laying around). You can use any paper ephemera you have or any special image you like. First, make a template from thin cardboard hat fit snugly inside the paperweight. Next, lay the template on your fabric or photo and cut around it. Last, pop the photo or fabric inside the paperweight and run a thin bead of hot glue to seal in it.

Scrap Fabric Wreath

I have been busy, busy this weekend making these fun scrap fabric wreaths. I love the simplicity of making them. Cutting the fabrics scraps [which come from vintage men's shirts and old scarves] and knotting them to hand formed wire is very therapeutic. They will be hitting the shop this afternoon.

Vintage Fabric + Button Fridays

Another new feature this week is Vintage Fabric + Button Fridays. I will have on display a gathering of vintage and retro fabrics from my extensive collection. Enjoy this Friday's collection: "It's Almost August"
This collection reminds me of the tail end of summer. The days are hot and dry. Many of the summer's brilliant colors are beginning to fade to their autumn patina. But, in August, after a refreshing evening storm, whats green becomes greener once again to extend summer until September.

I am in love...

with Jane Foster. What a woman! This artist is a vintage fabric collector and crafter. A screen printer and vintage 1960s illustration collector [everything I love] Take a peek at her blog. She collects vintage picture dominos [something I am going to be on the look out for now!] and sews beautiful pillow cushions from mid century and 1960s fabric. le sigh.
She also has an adorable little etsy shop. You can buy these cute little vintage fabric cats. Sweet!

getting crafty

I decided to make some new tags for my shops this week. I stained white tags with coffee and then let them dry. Afterward, I stamped "Its Bella" on some and "Thank You" on the rest in black ink. Lastly, I ripped up tiny pieces of vintage fabric for a bright embellishment. I love how a small scrap of fabric can find a new life, even if it is super small.
