Vintage Grain Sack Spices Up My Kitchen

I traveled back to Pennsylvania from Washington DC for the Thanksgiving holiday last week. I love going home to my parents house because my mom and I get to hunt around thrift stores and flea markets for antiques. This visit however, I came up with a great find straight from her basement! Sometimes the best finds are already at home.

This feedsack, that held grain for hens, was manufactured in the city I was born in; Allentown, Pennsylvania. I also went to high school in the town of Northampton, Pennsylvania which is also stamped on the bag. The patina and wear on the bag is perfect while the screen print is still crisp. I currently have it hanging in my kitchen in DC and it reminds me of home.

Flea Market Fabrics...

I discovered some great fabrics this weekend at the Flea Market. [I can't wait to go back next weekend too, weather permitting] The red and white fabric was one huge piece that ended up being five yards long! What a find. I have them for sale in one yard pieces.

I also found this lovely piece of barkcloth? [it feels like a heavy linen] Its gorgeous! The print is really romantic and lovely. These floral curtains are so cute too! I almost kept them for myself, but there was just not quite enough fabric for where I needed them. Maybe someone else can find the perfect window!

Friday Morning Steals...

This morning proved to be worth dragging myself out of bed to go to a local church's annual flea market sale. It was big last year and I did fairly well, but I was quite pleased with my steals this year. I found this great paint by number for a quarter! A quarter! Nice. I have been more and mroe attached to these cheesy things lately. Some are truly bad, but I thought this one was sweet and well worth the price. Its going to be staying. Then I found a whole mess of vintage bed linens. I adore these oldie prints! They will be excellent for the shop, as my vintage fabric stash was waning. I have already washed them, not they just need to be cut into one yard pieces. Fun!

Baboush

Oh I am in love with a new shop! Sweet jewelry and findings in blurry photographs from Baboush @ Etsy. My favorites are the skeleton keys she sells which she discovered at Italian flea markets. Can you imagine!? Italian flea markets, le sigh. I am super, super in love. This necklace is in my favorites right now. It is so simplistically beautiful. Romantic with a touch of industrial elements.Baboush [here] $20.00

More Flea Market Finds..

I found this lovely little stack of vintage diner ware plates at a flea market this morning! They are made by Syracuse and I am researching the name of the pattern. I have found a few on ebay calling it "black lace"
These were spotted at a vendor's booth that was spilling over with diner ware. He was such a friendly guy, telling me how he hates winter and is enjoying the early arrival of summer. [It was over 80 degrees in Eastern Pa. this morning!] He and his "buddy" practically bought an entire diner's worth of dishes, so he was willing to bargain. I only wish that he had the dinner sized plates. These are the desert size. All in all, they are a great find, which I may have a hard time letting go of and putting into my shop!
